Judith Drever
“My work is shaped by place — by the sea, by natural form, and by years of close observation, allowing the materials to lead the way.”
— Judy Drever

Routed in Place – Guided by Material
Judy is a visual artist whose work explores texture, form, and quiet emotional landscapes. Working primarily with textiles and mixed media, her practice is rooted in observation, intuition, and the subtle narratives found in everyday life.
Orcadian by birth, Judy has a deep and enduring connection to the islands, their shifting light, weather, and sense of place. The sea in particular is a constant source of inspiration — its movement, rhythm, and emotional pull recurring throughout her work.
Judy studied at Gray’s School of Art, where she specialised in weaving and jewellery. Her training was grounded in close observational drawing of natural form, and these disciplines continue to inform the structure, material sensitivity, and surface detail of her textile work.
After a long career as an art teacher, Judy now devotes her time fully to her own studio practice. Years of guiding others through creative process have deeply informed her approach, bringing a considered, reflective quality to her work.
